Along the way he meets the unsung heroes who dedicate their lives to keeping our rarer wildlife on the UK map.
ICON FILMS SNARES INCREDIBLY RARE TIGER KILL FOOTAGE FOR BBC

This 1x50 minute documentary explores, through the trials, tribulations and eventual triumph of two top natural history cameramen, why it is so difficult to document a tiger kill on film.
Wildlife cameraman Simon King, has filmed big cat hunting behaviour across the world for over two decades, capturing leopards, lions and cheetahs at that most breathtaking moment of predation.
Yet Simon has never visited India to see a tiger in the wild and has longed to witness the biggest of big cats take prey at full, magnificent stretch. But it’s a dream that is in danger of being unfulfilled. Tigers are facing extinction in the wild and with their catastrophic decline the opportunities to document the central event of their predatory lives is becoming harder and harder.
But there’s hope. Simon has teamed up with Indian tiger expert, Alphonse Roy and to crack one of Natural History’s toughest challenges, to get a tiger kill on film. With a shared ambition, but very different opinions about how to get their shot, Simon and Alphonse share their field craft, technical skills and local knowledge, and after an epic struggle of wills and patience manage to record the elusive and fleeting moment of a tiger at the peak of its powers, an event so rare in the history of nature documentary film-making that similar sequences can be counted on the fingers of one hand. It’s a stunning achievement that delivers priceless insight into this magnificent species and a poignant, timely reminder of it’s precarious existence.
Harry Marshall, Producer and Director says, “Icon Films has bought together two experts to achieve a feat only once before captured on film. Simon King, one of the worlds leading experts on big cats and their behaviour, had never been to India and had never seen a wild tiger. We paired him with Indian Wildlife filmmaker and tiger expert, Alphonse Roy to make a truly historic film”.
