Sky Vision Acquires Rights to Savage Kingdom

Sky Vision acquires international distribution rights to Icon Films and Natural History Film Unit Botswana’s ground breaking natural history series ‘Savage Kingdom’ .

Leading independent UK TV production company Icon Films and Natural History Film Unit Botswana today announce the acquisition of international distribution rights to ‘Savage Kingdom’ by Sky Vision.

Produced by Icon Films with Natural History Film Unit Botswana and shot in 4K, ‘Savage Kingdom’ is a ground breaking look at warring animal clans that include lions, leopards, hyenas and wild dogs, battling for survival in a remote region of Africa that is drying up after years of flood-soaked abundance.

In a unique departure from traditional natural history film production, each episode is told from one predator’s point of view, resulting in dramatic, character-driven storytelling that seems like scripted drama. It is voiced by Emmy-Nominated Actor Charles Dance.

Sky Vision, the international production and distribution arm of Sky, will distribute the series as a 6 x 60’ series worldwide outside USA and MENA.

‘Savage Kingdom’ was commissioned by National Geographic WILD as a global documentary mini-series event which will be broadcast from November 19th. The series received its world premiere at Wildscreen festival in Bristol on October 12th.

“We are very pleased to be working with Sky Vision on this incredibly exciting new series. We received a lot of interest in the distribution rights for ‘Savage Kingdom’ and believe that Sky Vision, with their track record in Natural History and reputation for innovative factual and scripted output, is the perfect company to take this Natural History / drama hybrid out into the international market” said Lucy Middelboe Commercial Director of Icon Films.

Sky Vision is really excited to be working with Icon to represent Savage Kingdom internationally. Icon Films are amongst the world leaders in producing quality blue-chip wildlife content, and this series will be a fantastic addition to our Science & Nature catalogue, offering compelling emotion and drama. I'm confident that audiences across the world will be enthralled by this new series made in conjunction with Natural History Film Unit Botswana” said Andrew Bowers, Acquisitions Manager for Specialist Factual at Sky Vision.

Icon Films Executive Producers are Harry Marshall and Laura Marshall. Natural History Film Unit Botswana Director and Cinematographer is Brad Bestelink.

For Nat Geo WILD, Executive Producer is Ashley Hoppin, Senior Vice President of Development and Production is Janet Han Vissering and Executive Vice President and General Manager is Geoff Daniels.
